If you like Animal Crossing….

05 · 09 · 09

By @jenhennen

Many a geek girl is familiar with the dangers of Animal Crossing. Just when you’ve managed to extricate yourself from the game’s magnetic pull and have stopped shaking trees to see what falls out, two more AC-like games are being released within the next few weeks. Earlier this spring, Magician’s Quest: Mysterious Times was announced for DS and promises to be AC in a Harry Potter world. You can cast spells and take part in a adventure mini-games, all while doing familiar tasks like bug collecting and fishing. The environment looks like it has much more variety than AC’s trees/grass/beach environment, and the game makes use of both DS screens to show off the 3D environments. The game also promises to have a much larger shopping district than Nook’s or even the “City Folk” city. Let’s hope Magician’s Quest makes money grow trees too! Read the rest of this entry ?

I swear I saw a Zombie

By @geekgirls

zombie_fogPreface: The events that took place on this Wednesday in November 2008 are all true, without exaggeration.

On a particular average Wednesday in November of last year, I walked outside toward my car into an unusually thick fog. It was the kind of fog that halts even the slightest breeze; the kind that makes it seem as if there’s no air at all. I shook off the eerie sensation, got into my car and headed down to road. Read the rest of this entry ?

If you have been following @geekgirls on Twitter recently, you know that I have a big problem with celebrity profiles on Twitter, for many reasons.

First, Twitter’s main purpose is connectivity through conversation. I think it’s great that celebrities have logged on to see what Twitter is all about, but if they’re not going to engage in conversations, then what’s the point? And I highly doubt that they’re using this website to send tweets or DMs to their friend celebrities. So, if they are not going to make themselves available for conversation with anyone outside their own circle, then what’s the point? Read the rest of this entry ?

geek tv

By @geekgirls

As a geek, I demand more from my television networks. Unfortunately, I am often disappointed with most of the scheduled programming on all 800 bazillion channels available. Every once and awhile, I find something interesting on the History Channel, the Science Channel or NatGeo, but I really have to look, and it’s usually never a series. I honestly haven’t been impressed with a geek TV series since X Files. Actually, a few years ago I used to watch Invasion and Surface, which were both pretty decent shows, which is probably why they were both cancelled. Read the rest of this entry ?

Movie Review: Wolverine

05 · 01 · 09

By @katiedoyle

wolverineSo, last night I went to see the midnight showing of Wolverine.  There are two main reasons I like seeing movies at midnight.  First, I like being an elitist who has seen the movie before most other people.  Second, I like being in a theatre with a lot of people who are there because they want to see movie a WHOLE LOT.  And the people who see comic book movies are the best.

I could start this review off with the boring stuff like who the characters are and who plays them and blah blah blah.  But I think that most of the people who are going to be reading this, heck, most of the people in the world know all of that so I’ll just dive in. Read the rest of this entry ?
