Rachel MalletI’m not much of a writer, and I hate talking about myself.  Not a great combination when you have to write a bio.  But I do love to talk DC Comics, especially Batman and Nightwing; and Doctor Who, Torchwood and the Sarah Jane Adventures.  See if someone wants me to turn on my inner geek I can do it in a heartbeat.  Just be prepared for me to go on and on.

I’ve always been a geek.  I’ve always known I was a geek.  Didn’t realize until fairly recently though that being a geek was a good thing.  I always had seen it as the thing that made me different.    I didn’t embrace my inner geek girl until a few years ago.  So to all of you out there who haven’t yet, do so.  My life is much more fun now that I have.  And at 35, I can’t believe the time I wasted.

nette kingAt this very moment, I am typing my bio with my cell phone. I am thoroughly and hopelessly addicted to technology. My drug of choice is Xbox 360, though I was first hooked by the sweet, sweet Sega Genesis at the tender age of 5. Batman will always hold a special place in my heart, and I can never resist argueing with Superman fans. I am obsessed with Dinosaurs (Velociraptors are my favorite!!!) and I am convinced there will be an apocalyptic zombie outbreak someday. Don’t worry, I’m prepared. I have been touched by the Flying Spaghetti Monster‘s noodly appendage. I’m a terrible person, so people tend to like me. Outside the interwebs, I like making art, enjoying the great outdoors, and making animal toys hump. There is always a song stuck in my head, and I am an exceptional driver.

@amy_geek

amy geekAmy is a geeky sort of girl who is equally comfortable in Stormtrooper armor and flouncy skirts. Okay, actually, Stormtrooper armor is far from comfortable, but you get the point.

She was raised in Ohio but has lived in the glorious state of California for almost five years. She feels lucky to be a short drive away from the mountains of Yosemite or the dunes of Death Valley. She gets outdoors as often as she can to take advantage of hiking opportunities in the area and loves speeding east into the desert to go climbing. Her camera is almost always in tow. She can be bribed with coffee and French pastries.

She has been a geek since watching a Star Trek episode way back when. Things quickly went downhill from there to include fantasy books, graphic novels, tabletop gaming, costumes, and an unhealthy obsession with Star Wars. She likes to spend time writing about anything geek or costumes and occasionally she even writes a short story.

She has no idea what she wants to be when she grows up, but until then, she will keep playing D&D, reading comics, and perfecting the ultimate chic lightsaber. Strong female characters in the world of geek (movies, comics, & books) influence her attitude and costumes.

@LaureeAshcom

lauree ashcomLauree was a geek girl before the word “geek” was used for anything beyond circus freaks.  Her choice of reading material was a source of laughter to her family.  Oh my how things have changed!

Lauree loves information of all kind which means she is always learning.  Sometimes she does wish she could focus on one area of interest instead of being a generalist.  A side effect of her information gathering is that she has become the go-to source for odd information for her family and friends.

She has successfully raised two geeks.  Her daughter-in-law has become accustomed to the fact that family discussions are about geek topics.

Lauree is a Public Information Officer at work.  This has been an interesting change from years as a webmaster and graphic designer.  She is encouraging her agency to have a greater presence in the social media world.  It is good to do things outside your comfort zone.  :)

heather harrisWhat do you do with a B.A. in English? You babble about pop culture on the Internet. I write fiction, too, but you can find most of my writing at PopBunker.net, where I discuss such important topics as YouTube ukulele videos and which Smurf belongs in which DC Universe lantern corps.

When I’m not writing, I play the cello, read series fantasy, and have conversations riddled with Star Wars quotes. I am routinely glad that the universe decided I would be a girl, six feet tall, and have a penchant for knee-high leather boots, as these things contribute to my neither getting routinely beaten up nor becoming a spinster cat-lady.
